Our History

Dare to Share with Zimbabwe was founded in 2001 by Jonathan Daniel, a former resident of Harare. As a child, Mr. Daniel experienced extreme poverty. He later moved to the United States with support from American missionaries who funded his education in North Carolina. He started Dare to Share as a way to support communities in Zimbabwe, similar to how he was supported.

The organization runs sustainable, community-led projects that reach underserved populations. For over 20 years, we have delivered essential services, including food drives, education support for school-age children, orphan care programs that place children in stable homes, and clean water initiatives for households without reliable access to safe water.

Our current focus is Epworth, a town of more than 200,000 people living with limited access to clean water, healthcare, education, and social services. Originally established in 1929 as a Methodist mission, Epworth grew rapidly in the 1970s as people fled conflict during the Rhodesian Bush War. Because it was not a government-planned settlement, it has historically lacked public infrastructure. Today, the community still faces significant barriers to basic services due to political challenges and administrative changes in the government.

Epworth’s largest need is clean water. Residents rely on local rivers and an inactive quarry for washing, bathing, and drinking. The water from these resources is contaminated and water-borne illnesses are on the rise.  Clinics are overwhelmed, understaffed, and lack the critical resources necessary for meeting the rising need for healthcare services. Children are unable to attend school either because they themselves are suffering waterborne illnesses or because they have to miss classes to spend their days fetching water -- this particularly impacts girls and women, who oftentimes bear the responsibility of walking several miles a day just to retrieve dirty water for their families. Clean water is essential for all aspects of a community. By addressing the significant need for clean water resources, Dare to Share is breaking the cycle of poverty and giving families the opportunity to build healthier, more stable futures.

Dare to Share with Zimbabwe remains steadfast in its commitment to uplifting communities like Epworth through compassionate, strategic, and community-driven efforts. As we look ahead, we continue to expand our impact—building partnerships, empowering local leaders, and investing in sustainable solutions that address the root causes of poverty. With every project, we strive to honor our founding mission: to share hope, resources, and opportunity with those who need it most.
